Sanghan (Kaithal), June 8
Sanghan is one of the better equipped villages in Kaithal district. Well-maintained streets and roads, a matter of pride for villagers, are a pointer to this.
“A tube-well has been installed, while another one has been sanctioned. Three illegal liquor vends were removed. Farmers didn’t face problem during girdawari this time,” said village sarpanch Karamveer Singh.
With village adopted by Kurukshetra MP Rajkumar Saini under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, it means more benefits are in the offing. Several projects such as a three-pond system, a stadium, a primary health centre, a community centre and a herbal park had been announced, the sarpanch said.
The village, with a population of nearly 4,000, needs an RO system and regular power supply. Government Senior Secondary school, too, needs attention. “The school has been running without a principal for more than a year and it is understaffed. The construction of a library and an art and crafts room has been hanging fire for two years,” Singh said.
Manoj Kumar, a lecturer at the school, pointed out other lacunae: “There is only arts stream in the school, while medical, non-medical and commerce are in demand. Besides, the school has not received funds to pay its electricity bill, forcing the authorities to make the payment from other funds,” he said.
He added there was no college in the radius of about 25 km of the village, posing problems for girls to pursue higher education.
Satbir Singh, a villager, pointed out villagers’ expectations had gone higher after the MP adopted the village. He though said there had been no sign of development activity since Saini adopted the village.
The MP, however, said the work on projects had started and it would be completed in a record time. A proposal to provide round-the-clock power through a solar power plant worth Rs10 crore has been mooted. Officials have informed me there’s not enough budget for the project. I hope for extra budget from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister,” Saini added.
