Various literary organisations celebrated the 97th birthday of eminent novelist Jaswant Singh Kawal at his native place in Dhudike village today.

Jaswant Kawal penned more than two dozen novels including, Sach Nu Fansi, Toshali Di Hanso, Lahoo Di Lo, Ainian Cho Utho Soorma, Puranmashi and Hanni. He also wrote the political articles and compiled some books, including Punjabio! Jeena Hai Ke Marna.

Dr Tejwant Singh Mann, president, Kendari Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Sekhon), said, “Kawal fought for the farmers, for the status of Punjabi language, for the education to rural students and for the nationality issues. His fight still continues.”

During an interaction, Jaswant Kawal said simple and light food and activism for social causes was reason behind his fitness at this age. Kawal is writing a new novel which is said to be completed soon. — TNS
