Now, 3-year validity for caste certificates

Ashok Verma, Chairman of Uttarakhand Other Backward Class Commission, today said the state government had increased the validity of caste certificate from one year to three years.

Verma told mediapersons here today that the backward classes in the state had been demanding a hike in the validity period of caste certificates for long which the state government had finally accepted. “The commission sends proposals to the state government on regular basis for the benefit of the backward class. We have sent a proposal seeking monetary help for the marriage of economically weaker OBC girls. We have also asked the state government to increase the creamy layer limit from Rs 6 lakh per annum to Rs 10 lakh per annum,” he said. Verma said he had met Union Minister Chaudhary Birendra Singh recently and urged him to ensure that social welfare funds reach the state on time.

Verma said the OBC population in the state had increased. “As per the latest census, the OBC population in Uttarakhand is around 16 lakh, with a maximum of 7 lakh in the Haridwar district,” he added.
