After PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh and AAP state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur vowed to root out drugs from the state in a short span, BSP state president Avtar Singh Karimpuri today claimed that if the BSP came to power, it would put an end to the menace in a month.

Karimpuri said, “The BSP shall root out the drug menace from the state within a month of coming to power in Punjab.” When asked how the party would achieve it, he said, “We will go after the drug kingpins.”

He alleged, “The SAD decides its election strategy based on the number of people consuming a certain intoxicant. The party determines things based on how many voters consume smack, how many bhukki (poppy husk) and how many liquor. SHOs distribute poppy husk and liqour during election days and the 108 ambulance is also used to distribute such inebriants,” he alleged.

At places such as Talwandi Sabo and Jainpur village in Balachaur, as many as 45 and 16 lives, respectively, had been lost to the drug menace, he said.

Karimpuri said, “The BSP believes liquor is a kind of addiction just like chitta and bhukki. The party will work towards stalling the liquor sale if it comes to power.” He said as part of its ‘BSP Liao – Punjab Bachao’ campaign, the party would hold a series of dharnas across the state from July 7 to 10.
