Ambala, February 17
After Jats, the Ror and Jat Sikh communities are planning to pressure the state government to get their demand for reservation under the special backward classes (SBC) category fulfilled.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had last year stayed the government’s decision of providing reservation to Jats, Jat Sikhs, Rors, Tayagis and Bishnois under the SBC category.
Akhil Bhartiya Ror Mahasabha chief Choudhary Nasib Singh Karsa said, “The matter has been discussed with the community leaders. It has been decided to call a meeting of community members on February 24 or 25 to chalk out a strategy. The final date will be announced soon.”
“We are of the view of forming a coordination committee and pressuring the government along with members of other three (Jat Sikh, Tayagi and Bishnoi) communities,” he said. The previous government, he said, had not followed the right procedure while declaring reservation for the five communities. The reservation is a long pending demand of the Ror community and we will fight to get our demand fulfilled, he said.
Karsa said, “We are seeking reservation, but we are also of the view that it should be provided according to the economic status.”
“We had talked to Jat leaders in the past, but due to various groups in that community the agreement couldn’t be made on forming a coordination committee and launching an agitation jointly. They have the right to express their resentment, but blocking roads and rail traffic is not the right thing. Putting common man to inconvenience is not right,” he said.
Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda, who belongs to the Jat Sikh community, said: “We will fight for the interests of the community. The matter is related to five communities, so a coordination committee of leaders of five castes should have been formed. But the Jats have already started their agitation.”
