Much to the surprise of residents, Sewa Kendras were open today despite it being a public holiday on account of Janmashtami.

It was the first public holiday after the inauguration of 46 urban Sewa Kendras on August 12, when residents were able to access services here.

District manager for the centres Rahul Sapehiya said the Sewa Kendras will remain open on public holidays in the future as well. He said people can avail the services at Sewa Kendras on holidays as they are free. He said awareness about the services and the benefits of Sewa Kendras was still low among residents, as these were recently inaugurated in urban areas. “But once people start coming in more, we will keep some of the busy Sewa Kendras open even on Sundays,” he said.

“As people can apply for any service, including making birth, marriage, caste, character certificates, etc, at any Sewa Kendra, residents will be able to access other Sewa Kendras throughout the week,” he said.

“This is especially going to benefit people working in 9 to 5 job, as they don’t get time to do such work during work hours. So, this convenience will be at their doorstep,” said Rishi Bhav, in charge of Sewa Kendra at Rakh Bagh.

Some residents said they were happy to see the Sewa Kendra open today. “It was surprising to see the Sewa Kendra open today. I was pleasantly surprised and applied for my daughter’s birth certificate, for which I was not getting time,” said Amarjit Singh, a resident of Dugri Road.
