Karnal, June 22
The local bus stand is now under the third eye surveillance as the authorities have installed four CCTV cameras at its four entry points.
A source said it was the long-pending demand of passengers.
The initiative has been taken by the authorities to avoid any untoward incident at the bus stand, reportedly famous for incidents of stabbing, stealing and eve-teasing.
The source said the authorities had taken the initiative after three stabbing incidents were reported at the bus stand in the past four months.
The lack of security at the bus stand has been a major concern for commuters. They have taken up the issue with the bus stand authorities several times in the past.
General Manager (GM), Karnal depot, Jaipal Rana said the CCTV cameras had been installed at all entry gates of the bus stand to prevent any mischief on the premises. “The CCTV cameras will help to keep a vigil on the miscreants, besides help the depot authorities to properly manage the bus stand and the buses,” the GM added.
Rana said the monitoring screen had been installed at his office so that he could keep a check on the movement of miscreants and the staff on the premises. “The cameras will also help us to know about the arrival and departure time of the buses,” he added. The official said they would install more CCTV cameras on the premises soon.
Meanwhile, commuters, especially girls, expressed their happiness at the installation of the CCTV cameras at the bus stand. “It is a good move. The CCTV cameras should have been installed earlier to keep a check on miscreants,” said Rani, a student. Naresh Garg, another passenger, said it would help in controlling eve-teasing, stabbing and stealing.”
