Activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) today termed the move of the BJP-PDP coalition government of introducing Urdu as compulsory descriptive paper for the post of naib tehsildar as discriminatory.

The activists of the NSUI staged a protest outside the main gate of the University of Jammu (JU).

The activists raised slogans against the government for allegedly making the discriminatory move for the youth of the Jammu region.

Avijot Singh, NSUI state general secretary, alleged that the youth of Jammu had been betrayed regarding newly advertised posts of naib tehsildar with the compulsory condition that the candidate must have the knowledge of Urdu, which comprised 30 marks. “It is a well-known fact that students of Jammu division know Hindi, and not Urdu. This condition was not indicated earlier when the candidates were required to fill the forms. It was communicated after four months of filling of the forms and deposition of fees,” an NSUI statement claimed.

The NSUI demanded that either the Urdu section be omitted or an equivalent Hindi section be introduced in the paper to provide equal opportunity to the candidates of all the regions.

Other NSUI activists, namely Ranjodh Singh, Khalid Alaie, Rohit Attari, Vishal Singh and Ranbir Singh Salyal, were also present.
