After inspecting several sites for setting up a multi-modal logistic hub here, the state government has now started exploring the possibility for another development project — a 500 MW solar power plant — in Mahendragarh district.

A team of officers from Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) led by DGM Vikas Gupta visited 11 villages of this district on Sunday to collect the basic information about the sites for the proposed solar power plant.

During the visit, the officials also interacted with villagers and panchayat members to inform them about the project. “The team inspected various sites at Dholera, Mosnuta, Panchnota, Baayal, Golva, Ropad Saray, Islaampur, Gaanvdi Jaat, Naya Gaon, Sareli and Ghataser villages to find out about the availability of land required for the plant,” said sources.

Later, Gupta interacted with mediapersons and informed them that the government was contemplating setting up the plant on some barren land in the district. He said the required land for the project would be taken from the farmers and village panchayats on lease for 30 years.

As per information, Mahendragarh and Bhiwani districts have been selected for the Union Government’s ‘Solar Power Project-2020’ that aims at ensuring one lakh megawatt power production in the next five years.

“The project will be useful not only for the barren land of this area, but also for resolving the issue of power shortage. Besides, the village panchayats and farmers will also be able to get extra income by providing their land for the project on lease,” said the authorities.

Notably, the government officials have also visited several villages of the district thrice during the last month in view of setting up a multi-modal logistic hub project after Rewari farmers refused to part with their land for the project.
