The ex-servicemen from the district observed Independence Day by garlanding Kargil martyr Krishan Kumar in Sirsa.

They also vowed that they would not participate in any government function till the implementation of One Rank, One Pension (OROP).

The ex-servicemen met on Saturday under the banner of Bhartiya Sainik Kalyan Sangthan, Sirsa. Subedar Raghubir Singh Sai presided over the meeting.

They paid tributes to martyr Krishan Kumar and saluted the Tricolour. Later, the ex-servicemen castigated the BJP government for going back on the issue of OROP.

“The manner in which ex-servicemen sitting on dharna at Jantar Mantar have been thrashed by the police, it shows the respect the government has for ex-soldiers,” said Sai.

The ex-servicemen warned their association would be constrained to take some drastic steps in case the government did not take immediate steps to implement OROP as promised by the PM before the Lok Sabha polls. — TNS
