Over Rs 390 cr released for Jhelum flood mgmt plan

The Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and Flood Control, Choudhary Sham Lal, on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that during the year 2015-16, a comprehensive plan, ‘Priority works for management on river Jhelum, Phase-I’, had been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 399 crore.

The minsiter said of this, Rs 119.07 crore stood released so far against which Rs 52.53 crore had been utilised on the allied works like construction of protection walls, dredging works, etc.

Replying to a question by MLA Anjum Fazili, the minister further informed that Rs 38.41 crore had also been spent on various restoration works on river Jhelum from Anantnag to Srinagar under temporary and permanent basis after the 2014 floods.

Meanwhile, MLA Javed Mustafa Mir raised a supplementary question and called for speeding up the dredging works onthe Jhelum.
