Raikot has had a peculiar voting history. In the Assembly elections, the constituency has been voting to power the candidates from a party that is not in power in the state. The constituency has suffered neglect in the past. Raikot MLA Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal starts with this observation when asked about his agenda as MLA. “Raikot needs development urgently. This is a lot to be done. My priority would be the overall development of the constituency. I will make honest and sincere efforts to develop the constituency in all spheres,” said the AAP leader.
Drugs are eating into the vitals of our society. Lives are being lost to drugs. Hissowal said he would work for the eradication of drug menace in the state (this is on the AAP agenda as well), with a particular focus on Raikot. “If the Congress wages a war against drugs, my support to the party leaders for this cause will be hundred per cent.”
Education of girls is another area of focus for the MLA. “Villagers tell me that they are desirous of educating their daughters. But they don’t want to send them to another village for school education. The parents are too willing to educate the girl child, provided there are schools in the village itself,” said Hissowal.
Improvement in medical facilities in the constituency is required, according to the MLA. The public transport is almost non-existent in the villages. Hissowal would like to address all these issues.
“I am visiting villages and requesting the villagers to rise above the party lines. They have to give up ‘thinking in terms of affiliation with AAP, Akali Dal or the Congress’. I, on my part, have assured them that I will perform my duty without taking into consideration anyone’s political affiliations.”
