Overnight rain damages 3 houses in Jaunpur

Heavy overnight rain wrecked havoc in several villages of the Jaunpur development region falling under Chajula Patti in Tehri district.

Three houses collapsed while two cowsheds damaged at Ghandiala and Sartali villages. However, no casualty was reported.One Bhim Singh said he, along with his two sons, was inside the house when they saw cracks in the ceiling. They managed to come out of the house before it completely collapsed. He said other members of his family had gone to a nearby village to attend a marriage ceremony.

In another incident, the sidewalls of a house belonging to Jagat Singh collapsed. Cowsheds belonging to Ranjor Singh of Ghandiala village and Mukesh of Sartali village also damaged.

Ritesh Rawat said his house also collapsed and foodgrains and other items stored in the house buried under the debris. Ritesh Rawat alleged cracks had appeared in the house during the 2013 disaster. However, the district administration did not initiate any action.

Residents of the affected villages said the situation could worsen if the rains continued in this manner. The Bhatoli-Mandarsu road was also blocked at several places. Nayab tehsildar, Dhanaulti, Manjit Singh Gill said several houses and cowsheds in Bandasari, Binau, Saklana Patti and Lambhidhar in Dhanaulti had damaged due to overnight rains.

He said the district administration had also received information about the closure of several roads due to accumulation of mud and debris. He said no loss of life had been reported so far.

Gill said revenue officials had been directed to assess the damage so that relief could be disbursed without any further delay.
