Violating the ceasefire again, the Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling at five border posts along the International Border in the Samba sector today.

“The Pakistan Rangers, on Monday morning, resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on the Khora, Chilyari, Regal, Chachwal and Chak Dulma forward posts in the Samba sector. They targeted our border posts after our alert troops spotted three to four snipers near the border,” said a BSF spokesperson.

Pakistani troops suddenly opened fire with 51-mm mortar shells, automatic weapons and small arms from their Lumbreyal and Asif Sayeed posts to give cover to snipers. The snipers had to flee because of heavy retaliatory fire from BSF troopers. “There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing, which started at around 8.40 am and ended at 10.30 am,” he said.

This was the second ceasefire violation on the 198-km International Border this year. “Our troops also gave a calibrated response to the Pakistani firing,” the BSF official added.

On February 2, the Pakistan Rangers had fired with automatic weapons and grenades on a BSF post along the border in the Samba sector.

On January 1, Pakistan had violated ceasefire in the Shahpur Kerni sector along the LoC of Poonch.
