Jammu, April 7
Displaced Kashmiri Pandits today alleged that recent incidents in the NIT, Srinagar, had exposed the failure of the government to rein in anti-national elements in Kashmir who were openly threatening non-Kashmiri students with rape and violence.
The All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) organised a demonstration and demanded a CBI probe into the cane-charge on the students and foolproof security on the campus.
The protesters were led by APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit who denounced the local administration for letting the situation go out of control on the NIT campus and alleged that students were targeted for hoisting the national flag after some separatist elements raised anti-India slogans on the campus after the T20 Cricket World Cup final match recently.
King Bharati, national spokesperson, APMCC, warned the state government of dire consequences if the anti-national elements on the NIT campus were not dealt with.
Meanwhile, the Panun Kashmir (PK) has also expressed concern over the use of police force against the protesting students and “confusing” statement by the administration.
In a statement, PK chairman Ajay Chrungoo and convener Agnishekher have appealed to the government to recognise that “the NIT, Kashmir, is located in a milieu that led to the exodus of the entire Hindu community of Kashmir”.
“The police force unleashed on the students is also an organised state repression on the nationalist sentiment in the state,” they said in the statement. Ravinder Raina, president of the All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), asked the state government to identify the policemen involved in the cane-charge and suspend them.
