The Panjab University will become the country’s first educational institute to have the facility of issuing online degrees to students globally. The university will start this facility from the next week and any student who wants to get his degree re-issued can apply for the provisional or duplicate degree online.
He will have to submit a scanned copy of his photo ID with the online application to the university. He will be issued the duplicate copy of the degree within three days. Earlier, the process of manual issuance of a duplicate degree took 21 days.
Students will have both options — of getting the copy online or through post from the university. An official said the university would not charge any extra money for the duplicate online copy besides the fixed fee i.e. Rs 400.
PU controller of examination Parvinder Singh said the facility would have many advantages for students as this would be a verified degree and it could be used for admission to any university and for immigration by any applicant.
He said the university had added a security feature in the process. A student could open a copy of the degree after filling the security code, which will be immediately verified by the computer accessing it, he said.
The student can also apply for the re-evaluation degree, advance diploma or postgraduate diploma degree and duplicate certificates online. From next year, the university plans to issue degrees carrying a photograph of the candidate.
