Expressing grave concern over mob attacks on the transit camps at Haal, Pulwama and Vessu, following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani, the Panun Kashmir today said the creation of a union territory is the lasting solution to rehabilitate the minority community.
Addressing a press conference, Panun Kashmir chairman Ajay Chrangoo and convener Agnishekhar said with the latest incidents of stone-throwing on minorities, nobody should have any doubt that the creation of a union territory of Panun Kashmir was the only way for safe and lasting rehabilitation of Hindus.
“Well-organised attacks on minorities living in the transit camps is condemnable. The government’s proposals of clusters and composite colonies to settle internally displaced Hindus in Kashmir will not address the issue,” said Chrangoo.
He said the attack at Haal was not an isolated incident. “The reports about burning of some houses, desecration of a temple in Srinagar and intimidation are pouring in and a comprehensive picture of the situation will appear before us in coming days,” claimed Agnishekhar.
The Panun Kashmir claimed that nobody should have any doubt now about the nature of the polity in Kashmir. “Burhan owed allegiance to the terrorist formation, Hizbul Mujahideen, which is motivated by the same regressive ideology as that of Lashkar-e-Toiba, al-Qaeda or ISIS. If the killing invokes widespread public outrage, it is only a measure of the extent to which Islamic fundamentalism has made inroads into society,” said the leaders.
