Pithoragarh, January 5
As a fallout of the terrorist attack on the Pathankot Air Force station, security has been tightened on the Nepal border. The Uttarakhand Police have been taking extra care with regard to people coming from Nepal, especially those who look suspicious.
Additional SSB personnel are intensely patrolling the open border with Nepal, adjoining three districts of Pithoragarh, Champawat and US Nagar. The men have been told to report immediately if any suspected persons were seen entering the Indian territory, said PS Selal, DIG, Kumaon police.
“We have also ordered personnel to ensure regular checking of hotels and keep an alert eye for persons who enter the region from Nepal as the border is porous,” he said.
Quoting intelligence reports, the DIG said the agency had mentioned some districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Bareilly, Rampur and Moradabad, where ISI agents were suspected to be hiding. “As these districts are along the border with Uttarakhand, we have made it sure that no anti-national elements could enter into Uttarakhand territory from UP,” Selal added.
