Members of the local unit of the Revenue Patwar Union, Punjab, held a dharna here on Tuesday at the SDM office. They were protesting the alleged murderous attack on Prabhjit Singh ‘Patwari’ of Sheron village, 10 km from here, on Monday. They alleged that the attackers not only interfered in the official’s duty but also destroyed the departmental record. They sought early action against the accused.

One booked for abduction

Rana of Poohla village, 35 km from here, has been booked under Sections 363, 366 of the IPC for abducting a girl of the nearby Dialpura village luring her of marriage. The girl’s mother alleged that the accused abducted the girl on his motorcycle.

Missing case filed

Sukhmanjeet Singh (26) of Eimma Mllhia village, 20 km from here, has been missing since the last one week. The Sadar police have registered a case under section 365 of IPC. Taxi driver Sukhmanjeet left his home to go to a nearby village on February 24 but did not return. His wife suspects that he has been abducted to be killed.

Tohra memorial award

The Sikh Educational Society (SES) has on Tuesday decided to honour “The Sikh Review” magazine and Punjabi writer Dalip Kaur Tiwana with Panth Rattan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Memorial Awards this year for their outstanding contribution in various fields relating to Sikh religion, culture and literature.

Book on agri crisis

“Agriculture Economy of Punjab”, a book compiled by Dr Gian Singh, Professor, Department of Economics, Punjabi University, Patiala, was released at the 32nd International Punjabi Development Conference at Punjabi University on Tuesday. The book includes 28 research papers written by scholars.

2 killed in mishap

Two persons were killed and eight were injured as their jeep collided with a truck on the mega highway near Hanumangarh on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Meghwal (19) of Dhilsar and Bahadur Ram (21) of Meghsar village. The injured were shifted to a government hospital and a case was registered.

Man ends life

A man committed suicide by consuming poison in Purani Abadi area in Sriganganagar on Tuesday. Payal Chhabra alleged her husband Jaipal, alias Vicky, was allegedly being harassed by financiers. Jaipal was finding it difficult to repay his loan taken at a high interest rate.
