PAU school, women’s jail get sanitary napkin machines

More sanitary napkin vending machines were installed in government girl schools and a women’s jail to observe Menstrual Hygiene Day, yesterday.
The total number of machines installed has now reached to 28. These machines have been installed by NGOs, philanthropists and private banks under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.
Though vending machines are being installed at government girls’ schools only, such a vending machine was also installed at Government Model Senior Secondary School at Punjab Agricultural University, a first for a coeducational school, by Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat yesterday.
He said along with sanitary napkin vending machines, incinerators (for proper disposal of sanitary napkins) have also been installed in several schools.
The sanitary napkins are available at nominal cost through the machines, as these dispense a pack of three sanitary napkins that costs Rs 10.
ADC (Development) Apneet Riyat, who roped in donors for the initiative, said arrangements had been made by other organisations and firms for installing 10 more machines, which would complete the installation process these machines at all government girls’ schools.
Meanwhile, the DC reiterated that he had written to the state government that such machines should be installed in all government schools of the state. He said the district administration was already in touch with NGOs, banks and companies for installation of these machines in other schools of the district.
