Those depositing firearms to the arms dealers or at police stations will have to pay Rs 200 per month. Notably, the fee was Rs 50 per year.
As per the Arms Rules, 2016, the depositor would be charged Rs 200 per month for the custody of each firearm deposited, maintenance thereof and Rs 100 per month for any additional weapon. Further, extra charge for the maintenance of articles in good condition may be levied at such rates as may be fixed from time to time by the state government.
The fee charged for depositing weapons in the police stations shall be deposited in the treasury.
Sources in the district administration said the new rates were made applicable from August this year.
