Physiotherapists demand separate council
Dehradun, February 6
The Uttarkhand Physiotherapy Association has raised the demand for a separate physiotherapy council. Association members led by Dr SK Tyagi, patron of the association, today called upon state Health Minister Surinder Singh Negi and apprised him of their demand.
“Though physiotherapy is a separate entity, it has been clubbed with the paramedical council in the state to which we have been objecting. Not only are we demanding a separate council, but also separate cadre for the physiotherapists based on the prevalent state staffing pattern and also appointment of at least one physiotherapist in each primary health centre,” Tyagi said.
Similar demands were raised with Uttarakhand Medical Education Minister Harak Singh Rawat and asked him to put a spot to the registration of physiotherapy institutions under the paramedical council. “Both ministers have responded positively to our plea and have instructed the officers to prepare a road map for the same,” Tyagi added. — TNS
