Sweety Aggarwal, SSP, Haridwar, inaugurated a police station at Piran Kaliyar in Roorkee in the district today. Piran Kaliyar legislator Furkan Ahmed was present on the occasion. Two reporting police posts have been set up at Imlikheda and Dhanauri under the police station, which will be the seventeenth police station of the district.
Twenty-eight villages will fall under the jurisdiction of the Piran Kaliyar police station, which will have five sub-inspectors, four head constables and 24 constables. It has been commissioned keeping in view the security and sensitivity of the world famous Piran Kaliyar shrine.
The SSP said of late a need was felt to have a police station at Piran Kaliyar as lakhs of pilgrims visit the shrine. The world famous Urs is going on at present, and Pakistan jayarins are also arriving at the shrine.
She appointed sub-inspector Anuj Singh as Station House Officer of the police station, sub-inspector Lokendra Bahuguna and sub-inspector Sandeep Devrani as in charge of the Imlikheda police post and the Dhanauri police post, respectively.
Notably, the annual Urs, which is held in the memory of the renowned Makhdoom-ul Azam Hazrat Syed Alaudin Ahmed Sabir Kaliyari at Piran Kaliyar at Roorkee in Haridwar district, draws lakhs of pilgrims known as ’jayarins’ to this revered shrine.
