Ludhiana, October 12
Mind Plus retreat, a rehabilitation centre, organised a play — Canvas of Life — to create awareness about mental health issues. Switch On, a group of young artists from Ludhiana, staged the play.
It featured the story of a family which has to go through an emotional healing after a phase of interpersonal clashes. The play beautifully captured the myriad emotions of the family while putting up a fight against their problems.
Speaking on the occasion, AK Kala from Mind Plus Healthcare, said, “Like the protagonist, many young kids succumb to the pressures of life and resort to the escape route of drug addiction. But drug addiction damages their brain and life. It is imperative to get the right treatment for patients of addiction and other mental health illnesses. Equally important is to treat them with respect, love and provide them care.”
He further added, “Stigma is the major reason for the delay in treatment of mental health illnesses even in the educated people. Through our awareness initiatives we endeavor to educate people to shun the stigma around mental health issues.”
World Mental Health Day is an initiative of World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organisation with members and contacts in more than 150 countries. The day is observed on October 10 to create awareness about mental health issues.
The play was attended by a number of people. The collection of the play was donated to Mind Plus foundation.
