Son Chirayia organised “Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra” (Nautanki) by The Great Gulab Theatre at the AMN Ghosh Auditorium here recently.

The play received a good response from the Dehradun audience indicating that folk art forms are still peoples’ favourite and needs a little push from all to bring it to the mainstream.

“Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra” is a couregeous tale of King Harishchandra who was well-known for his truthfulness and how he passed all tests that Gods prepared for him. Harischandra gave away his kingdom, sold his family and agreed to be a slave all to fulfil a promise he had made to sage Vishwamitra. This was a production by The Great Gulab Theatre and presented by Son Chirayia under the guidance of Padmashree Malini Awasthi. The organisation is engaged in reviving the disappearing folk theatre—Nautanki.
