Identifying uncontrolled wild vegetations as breeding bowl for vectors of many dreaded pathogens, a family of Pohir village has launched a cleanliness drive in memory of their deceased mother Dalip Kaur.
Besides announcing to undertake routine cleanliness at and around public places, the family has deployed at least five generator-run machines to uproot weeds from vacant plots, roads and streets.
The project was inaugurated by senior Congress leader Jagpal Singh Khangura on the occasion of the bhog ceremony of Dalip Kaur at Ahmedgarh road in Pohir village yesterday.
Dr Rajesh Garg, a social activist said Colonel MS Samra launched the novel project to provide clean and hygienic environment to villagers in memory of their deceased mother.
Contrary to the common trend wherein environmentalists remove garbage and waste materials from their respective localities, the Samra family decided to check uncontrolled growth of weeds along roads, streets and vacant places. Comprehending that weeds provide breeding and feeding substratum for insects, worms and allied species serving as vectors for pathogens of several dreaded diseases, the family chose to free the region from these unwanted plants and herbs.
The family has already appointed a team of operators for eradicating weeds and set aside an amount for arranging fuel for running the machines.
