Amid the hullabaloo over the involvement of certain BJP leaders in bribery cases, the police are yet to trace the missing link, Deputy Superintendent of Police Balwinder Singh Sekhon, who as per the police version is “untraceable” for the last 25 days.
The erring DSP was booked along with three BJP leaders for allegedly pocketing a part of the bribe money for helping accused in drug smuggling and fake arms licence cases.
The police have so far arrested two persons, BJP Yuva Morcha former district chief Jagpal Singh Sandhu alias Jimmy and local leader Lakhwinder Singh Lakha who allegedly acted as a conduit between the drug accused and BJP leaders.
The police are, however, “mum” over the status of other accused. Earlier, the role of the police came under the scanner in case of former district BJP president Jugraj Singh Katora, also an accused in the matter. While the police claimed to have made all-out attempts to trace him, Katora was found relaxing at home and even attending his office as chairman, market committee.
Similarly, the whereabouts of the DSP are known, although he was reportedly spotted by some senior BJP leaders in the state capital.
Hardyal Singh Mann, SSP, Ferozepur, said the DSP had applied for leave, but the same was not sanctioned. “We have sent him summons to join the probe, but he has not reported yet,” he said, adding that in case he continued to remain “missing”, they might initiate disciplinary proceedings against him.
