Mohali, April 27

The automated driving test centre, which was inaugurated by Chief Parliamentary Secretary NK Sharma with much fanfare on April 21, is non-functional. Reason: The centre has no proper Internet connectivity.

“In the absence of proper Internet connectivity, advance equipment, including censors and CCTVs, installed for mapping the test track, are not functional. As a result, no test is being conducted here,” said a staff member at the centre, set up at Papri village in Sector 82 here. Except on the inaugural day, when the driving abilities of seven persons were checked on the track, the centre has failed to take any other applicant’s test.

Three persons, including chief guest NK Sharma, could not pass the driving test on the inaugural day.

A staff member said on condition of anonymity that due to the non-functional centre, no driving licences were being issued of late. “The work in this regard is piling up,” said the staff member.
