Postal services were affected across the state as department employees were on strike on a call given by All-India Postal Employees Department Union. They said they would intensify their agitation if the government failed to fulfil their long-pending demands.

Their demands include the rectification of the 7th pay commission anomalies, increase in house rent allowance and revival of old pension scheme. The employees sat on a dharna in front of the Head Post Office here.

“Employees across the country under the banner of our union are on strike as the Union Government has not fulfilled our long-pending demands despite repeated assurances,” said AP Singh, Assistant Secretary of Punjab circle of the union. There are around 2,800 clerks and 1,000 Class IV employees in the state and the strike badly affected the working of the department.
