Postal stamp in memory of noted Hindi poet

A special postage stamp on renowned Hindi “Chhayawadi” poet Sumitranandan Pant will be issued on December 23. On June 24, 2015, Governor KK Paul had sent a proposal to the Centre regarding this, which was accepted by Union Minister for Communications and IT Ravishankar Prasad. The Governor sent the proposal so that the memories of the great poet, born on May 20, 1900, in Kausani in Almora, would remain alive.
The Governor has special interest in literature and has studied the works of Sumitranandan Pant and other writers of Uttarakhand. Impressed by the description of nature, progressive thinking and the philosophy in the poetry of Pant, the Governor decided to send the proposal.
Pant was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1961, Jnanpith Award in 1968 and Sahitya Akademi and Soviet Land Nehru awards.
