Pre-Independence photos on display in Mussoorie

A photo exhibition, capturing rare moments from 1857 to 1947, was opened for public viewing at the Heritage Centre at Landour in Mussoorie on Saturday.

Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall inaugurated the exhibition. The photos depicting the visits of Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Ballabh Bhai Patel and others to Mussoorie were the major attraction. Several pictures showing the effects of the freedom struggle were also prominently depicted in the exhibition. A rare pictures of Captain Young, the founder of Mussoorie, Raja Dilip Singh, son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and others were showcased on the occasion. The viewers appreciated the pictures of the British seeking help from the Tehri Maharaja during the 1857 mutiny. The coordinator of heritage centre, Surbhi Aggrawal, said a painstaking effort had gone in compiling the pictographic history of the hill town of Mussoorie since the British period so that the future generation could be made aware about the importance of their hometown.

She said many schools had shown keen interest in visiting the centre during the exhibition.
