The historic “Jhanda mela” at Sri Guru Ram Rai Darbar in Dehradun will begin from March 11.
Preparations are underway in the city for the annual fair, which is considered one of historic fairs of the Udaseen sect. The annual fair is held on the birth anniversary of Guru Ram Rai, a week after Holi celebrations.
A large number of devotees of Guru Ram Rai converge for the annual fair from all over the country and abroad. Groups of devotees from Punjab and Haryana have reached Sahaspur near Dehradun to participate in the Jhanda mela.
They are expected to reach Guru Ram Rai Darbar on Tuesday, where they will be received by the present Mahant Devender Dass Maharaj.
The district administration has started making arrangements for the mela as thousands of devotees are expected to reach Dehradun during the coming week.
The influx of pilgrims will increase after the Holi festival. On March 11, the main ceremony of the new Jhanda sahib, the mast at the historic Guru Ram Ram Rai Darbar, will be conducted.
