Urban Development Minister Pritam Singh Panwar inaugurated a fountain and statues of folk dancers from Garhwal at Library Bazaar here today.

He laid the stone for the expansion of Library Chowk and a musical fountain at Jhoola Ghar. The minister paid floral tribute to the statehood martyrs at Shaheed Sthal.

The minister said the projects had been inaugurated under the Library Chowk expansion programme as promised by the state government earlier.

He said the musical fountain at Jhoola Ghar would be another tourist attraction. The minister said the MDDA had been asked to launch a housing project for the residents of the town.

The minister said he had directed officials to begin the process for the construction of a town hall near the Municipal Council premises. He said the government was planning to provide relaxation in the freeze zone clause for residential housing construction. A committee had also been formed, which would give its report in the matter soon.

Meenakshi Sundaram, vice-chairman of the MDDA, said they were contemplating launching a project to remove traffic bottleneck at Library Bazaar and on the road leading to Kempty Falls. He said shops on the left side at Library Bazaar would be shifted to another place, so that the road was widened.

Meenakshi Sundaram said the parking project at Masonic lodge was being formulated and work would start soon. Meenakshi Sundaram said the MDDA was planning to construct a parking lot at Library Bazaar and create a vending zone for street vendors.

MC president Manmohan Singh Mall thanked the minister for unveiling the projects. Mussoorie MLA Mussoorie Ganesh Joshi, former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola and MDDA officials were present on the occasion.
