The Jammu-Pathankot National Highway was today blocked for nearly three hours by protesting family members of Anju Devi, who succumbed to her injuries at GMC, Jammu, after she was hit by a motorcycle on May 25.
“Before cremating the body, relatives and family members kept it on the highway at Kalibari Chowk and blocked it for vehicular traffic,” said a police official. They demanded immediate arrest of the motorcycle rider who had escaped from the spot, and slammed the police for their failure to trace the vehicle and accused driver.
“We demand the culprit’s arrest and compensation of Rs 20 lakh and a government job to one of the daughters of the deceased,” said Jagdish Raj, a local PDP leader and relative of the deceased.
Senior officials of the district administration and the police reached the spot and promised the aggrieved family of due action. Thereafter, the blockade was lifted.
