Mohali, August 8
The Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) have revised its layout plan of Rajpura Colony in Patiala.
The authorities said the public demand for providing a park in the newly-developed residential area had been accepted by the Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, who is also the chairman of PUDA.
“Implementing the same, the Department of Town and Country Planning has revised the layout plan of the site to provide a park on 80-ft wide proposed road in the colony,” said Surinder Dundia, Joint Director (PR), PUDA.
Since the public demand has been met, now PUDA has decided to intensify its campaign for the allotment of 172 residential plots in the colony.
“At this site, PUDA has carved out 230 residential plots of different sizes. Out of these, 172 plots have been offered to the general public for allotment through draw at reserve price. The site was home to government employees of different departments, living in 361 houses on rental basis. These houses being old were declared unsafe for living. With a view to provide better accommodation facilities to the government employees, the Public Works Department (PWD) has already constructed 475 new houses at three locations in Patiala,” said Dundia.
The employees have been allotted new houses and the site was transferred to PUDA under Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Lands (OUVGL) Scheme for planning and development of the same into an exclusive residential area.
Reportedly, a few residents are still living in these unsafe and dilapidated houses. “The possession of these occupied houses will be taken over by August 31. Immediately after taking over the possession, the development works would be undertaken and executed according to the revised layout plan,” added Dundia.
