Punjab Agriculture Minister opens Kheti Bhawan at Mohali

Inappropriate price of crops results in losses to farmers and the state. This was stated by Jathedar Tota Singh, Agriculture Minister, Punjab.
Tota Singh was in the town to inaugurate Kheti Bhawan, constructed at a cost of Rs 19.20 crore. The Agriculture Minister also presided over a state-level conference on crop diversification.
“Now, all offices related to the Agriculture Department that are being run from various buildings in Chandigarh will be shifted to the new building,” added Tota Singh.
Earlier, addressing the participants during the conference, the Agriculture Minister emphasised on crop diversification and encouraged farmers to adopt allied professions.
The minister admitted that farmers were not getting appropriate price of their crops. “The Central Government should increase the minimum support price of wheat and rice. The state government is taking necessary steps and is committed to improve the financial status of farmers,” said Tota Singh.
The minister called upon agriculture experts to come forward to help farmers by imparting knowledge of new techniques. “The experts should also motivate farmers to adopt new techniques that help in improving the production so that the financial status of farmers could be improved,” said Tota Singh.
Tota Singh also launched a book on 36 successful farmer of Punjab. Addressing the conference, the Chief Parliament Secretary, Agriculture, Gurbachan Singh Babbehali, said that field officers of the Agriculture Department should directly supervise the cultivation of crops and help farmers in reducing their expenses.
