Rail traffic on Amritsar-Saharanpur route hit; three trains cancelled

The derailment of a goods train between Ambala and Saharanpur railway stations falling in the Ambala division of Northern Railways hit the rail traffic badly on the Amritsar-Ludhiana-Saharanpur section.
As many as three trains were cancelled for the day, one train was partially cancelled and 10 others were diverted via alternate route. Many others mail and express trains on the section were delayed for hours altogether.
Pandemonium prevailed at the railway station for quite some time as passengers as well as the railway staff were clueless about the reason behind sudden cancellation, diversion and late running of trains coming from the Saharanpur-Ambala side. Railway officials said 14632 Amritsar-Dehradun Express, 14610 Shri Mata vaishno Devi Katra-Rishikesh Express, 12470 Jammu Tawi-Kanpur Express were cancelled for the day while 15212 Amritsar-Darbhanga Jannayak Express was partially cancelled today.
Several other trains were diverted via alternate route as the rail traffic could not be restored till late evening. The diverted trains include 18238 Amritsar-Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Express, 13050 Amritsar-Howrah Express, 13006 Amritsar-Howrah Mail, 12904 Amritsar-Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail, 12238 Jammu Tawi-Varanasi Begumpura Express, 13152 Amritsar-Sealdah Express, 14646 Jammu Tawi-Delhi Jn Shalimar Express, 12332 Jammu Tawi-Howrah Himgiri Express, 12356 Jammu Tawi-Rajendranagar Archna Express and 13308 Ferozepur-Dhanbad Ganga-Sutlej Express.
Among the trains running late, include 12407 Newjalpaiguri-Amritsar Express (4.50 hrs), 15933 Dibrugarh-Amritsar Weekly Express (3.40 hrs), 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Jansewa Express (7.55 hrs), 12331 Howrah-Jammu tawi Himgiri Express (14.40 hrs) and 15211 Darbhanga-Amritsar Jannayak Express (two hrs).
