Chamba, December 6
The 8th Battalion of the Himachal Home Guards (HHG) today celebrated its 54th Raising Day with patriotic fervour and gaiety at the Battalion Training Centre, Saroo, in the Chamba district.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chamba, Sudesh Mokhta, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unfurled the national flag and took salute of the impressive march past presented by jawans.
In his keynote address, the DC eulogised the role of home guards generally serving as an auxiliary to the police and helping to maintain internal security. The Home Guards were also helping the community in the time of any emergency or on any natural disaster, he said.
The DC also presented commendation certificates to jawans who had done outstanding work while performing their duties.
Earlier, Battalion Commandant Kuldeep Sharma read the messages of Governor Acharya Dev Vrat and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh released with regards to the HHG Raising Day.
The Home Guard jawans displayed a mock drill of relief and rescue operations carried out during any disaster or natural calamity on the occasion.
Later, a blood donation camp was also organised in which more than 13 Home Guard jawans donated their blood.
Pathaina chief guest
Kangra: The 54th foundation day of the Himachal Pradesh Home Guard and Civil Defence was on Tuesday celebrated at the Home Guard Training Centre at Dhanotu in Shahpur.
Vice-chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Corporation, Kewal Singh Pathaina, who was the chief guest on the occasion, lauded the role of Home Guards and their contribution to the state. He said the HP Home Guard Organisation was created on December 6, 1962, and its volunteers were drawn from various walks of society. He said the aim of raising a Home Guards’ organisation was to infuse a spirit of service, courage and patriotism among people and to channelise their energies in the maintenance of order for the socio-economic development of society.
