Sainik School, Kunjpura, has won the Raksha Mantri Trophy for sending maximum number of cadets for the induction into the NDA, Khadakwasla, during 2015-16. The school has brought the laurel to Karnal and Haryana for the ninth time. Ten cadets from the school joined the NDA in the session. The trophy was awarded to Principal Col YS Parmar by Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Ramrao Bhamre during the 45th All-India Sainik Schools Principals Conference held recently. TNS

Sex racket busted

The police have arrested a man and three women for allegedly running a sex racket. The police got information that Sarjeet and his wife Poonam, residents of Sirta road, were running a sex racket. The police sent a decoy customer who handed over a signed Rs 500 note to the kingpin and signaled the police party which immediately arrested Sarjeet, Poonam, Pinki and Meenu from the spot. The accused were booked under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. OC

Event on dental education

A dental education programme was organised in DAV Dental College here on Sunday. Dr IK Pandit, principal, said Dr Sameer Makkar and Dr Monika Makkar were the guest speakers. Overloaded vehicles seized

As many as 32 vehicles were impounded in the last two days during a drive against overloaded vehicles. Hamid Akhtar, SP, said the vehicles used dirt roads to evade challan. He said efforts were being made to nab those who provided inputs to vehicle drivers about police nakas. TNS

Minister exhorts youth to serve nation

Social Welfare Minister Kavita Jain has claimed that with the changing attitude of the youth, the country had started taking rapid strides in various fields in the last two years. She was addressing the concluding function of three-day RHYTHM-2016, a cultural festival organised at the DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal, in the district on Saturday. Over 1,000 students from different colleges participated in the cultural programme. OC

Merchant navy diver honoured

Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Chander Bidhan on Saturday honoured Pradeep Kumar, a diver in Merchant Navy, with ‘appreciation certificate’ for assisting the district authorities in recovering bodies. He recently fished out the body of a villager of Rohad village from the NCR canal. An official said Pradeep of Goyala Kalan village remained in touch with the district authorities to provide his services. TNS

The yoga club of MM University organised a session on how to lead a stree-free life for the students and teachers on Sunday. The main speaker, Rajiv Shankar Joshi, said one should ignore petty issues to reduce stress. Around 300 teachers and students of the university took part in the session. OC

Social Welfare Minister Kavita Jain on Sunday exhorted the people to take the society forward by worshipping characters and not their pictures. She was addressing Valmiki Jayanti programme here. Jain also announced grant for construction of rooms at Valmiki Mandir in Kakroi and began the renovation work of another Valmiki temple at Fazilpur village. OC

RSS route march

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took out a route march in Jind city on Sunday. The event was attended by Major Kartar Singh, RSS sanchalak, Haryana. Instead of khaki shorts, RSS cadre marched wearing long brown pants. The march started and ended at the Gopal School. Major Kartar stressed on the need to shun regionalism and casteism. OC
