Ravana stands tallest in Sec 46, only to fall

The Sanatan Dharm Dussehra Committee, Sector 46, has again made the tallest effigy of Ravana in the tricity. The committee has made 85-ft Ravana effigy along with Kumbhakarna (80ft) and Meghnad (72ft).

Last year, the committee has made a 90-ft effigy of Ravana. Committee’s chief patron Jatinder Bhatia said the committee would also remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the recent Uri attack.

UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore would be the chief guest on the festival. Drone would be used to shower flower petals on the public, he said. The organisers of the Shree Ramlila Committee, Sector 27, here, said the effigies representing evils would be put on pyre through remote controls.

According to committee president Dharampal Bansal, this time Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna effigies will be of 65ft each. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi will be the chief guest.

Shri Ramlila Committee, Sector 32, here, has decided to install a 20-ft LED for the public and fly balloons on Dasehra. Kishore Kumar Sethi, president of the committee, said Ravana’s effigy would be of 70ft, whereas height of Kumbhakarna and Megnad’s effigies would be 65ft each. In Chandigarh, Dasehra will be celebrated at around 33 sites with traditional fervour. The effigies will be put on fire at around 6 pm.

Functions will also be celebrated in Sector 17 at two places — Parade Ground and Circus Ground.


Rs 13 lakh to be spent on crackers

Dasehra committees across the city are likely to spend over Rs 13 lakh on crackers. On an average, every committee will spend Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 on crackers.

Cutting across religious barriers

Cutting across all religious barriers, Muslim craftsmen had made these effigies for the Dasehra celebrations in the city. Around 40 to 50 craftsmen from various parts of Uttar Pradesh made effigies for different Ramlila and Dasehra committees in the city.

Tight security arrangements

Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police for the Dasehra celebrations. A total of 1,579 cops will be on duty at 32 places in the city. Six DSPs, 26 Inspectors and 14 SHOs will be out in the field. The traffic staff will also be deployed to clear traffic jams.
