The controversial recruitment process to fill 150 teaching and non-teaching posts at Indira Gandhi University (IGU), Meerpur, has been annulled on the basis of inquiry report which exposed irregularities in the procedure.
The decision to do so was taken by the Executive Council (EC) of the varsity at a meeting chaired by acting Vice Chancellor D Suresh last evening. Following this, the fate of 17 non-teaching employees who were appointed under the same but had joined duty hangs in the balance as their recruitment too has been cancelled.
Sources said Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, while acting on a bunch of complaints alleging large-scale irregularities had last year not only stalled the appointment procedure but also sought a reply from the university on this count. The orders were received a day before the EC meeting which had to be postponed.
“The complaints had alleged that the authorities had committed brazen violation of the ordinance while carrying out the recruitment process. Committees were not formed as per rules with an intention to benefit favourites,” the sources added. The Chancellor had constituted an inquiry committee led by IAS Sudhir Rajpal who recently submitted his report which was forwarded to the VC. The report was yesterday placed before the EC which decided to cancel the recruitment process.
The previous VC, Mohinder Kumar, had put in his papers on July 20 last year following the constitution of an inquiry committee by the Governor.
IGU Registrar, Dr Atam Prakash, said “I cannot divulge any detail since the EC proceedings are yet to be signed.”
