BJP parliamentarian from the state Tarun Vijay has demanded speedy reinstatement of a plaque bearing Veer Savarkar’s name at the Cellular Jail in the Andaman.
Tarun Vijay, who was recently on a tour to the Cellular Jail, Port Blair, also discussed the matter with Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Anand Prakash and DC (South Andaman) Tanvi Garg.
The MP demanded that the plaque should be reinstated at the earliest to “correct the wrongdoings of those who believed in the politics of hate, intolerance and ignorance”. Further, Chief Secretary Anand Prakash promptly accepted Tarun Vijay’s plea to abolish the VIP system in the light and sound show at Port Blair’s Cellular Jail.
Tarun Vijay said VIPs, mostly political heavyweights, were violating the serene and sombre atmosphere at the light and sound show. They used cellphones during the show, disturbed the audience by coming late and made noises by shifting chairs and switching on lights.
He said every visitor here should be treated equally and no one should be given extra privilege due to his status. He lauded the jail authorities and the Culture Department for an excellent and inspiring show.
