The UT Department of the Engineering has started the renovation of the working women’s hostel at Bal Bhawan in Sector 23, Chandigarh.

The UT Administration has started the renovation work after a gap of seven years. Sources said it was in 2009 that the UT Administration closed the hostel to undertake the renovation work.

At present, the hostel can accommodate 150 women. Due to many reasons, the authorities failed to chalk out a plan for its renovation in the past seven years.

Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, UT, said the hostel would be ready by August 2016.

Anand, along with other officials, visited the site to review the renovation work today. The renovated hostel will help a large number of working women stay at affordable rates in the city.
