Resident alleges victimisation by senior police official

A resident of Rajguru Nagar here, Jasvinder Singh Walia, has stated that he is paying a heavy price for becoming a witness in the alleged bribery case involving a senior IPS officer.

Jasvinder said ever since he had locked horns with the police official, the police have been implicating him in one case after another at the behest of the senior IPS officer. He said if anything should happen to him and his family, then the IPS officer would be responsible for it.

While levelling serious allegations against the police official, Walia said the former owned 700 acres in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Walia was booked by the Sarabha Nagar police in a case of fraud and criminal conspiracy on August 8.

The case was registered on a complaint of Davinder Singh, a resident of Malkit Avenue, Barewal. The complainant had reportedly told the police that Walia stole his cheques and tried to withdraw Rs 2.5 crore by forging his signature. Walia has got anticipatory bail in the case.

Walia alleged that Davinder was a henchman of the IPS officer. Meanwhile, the IPS officer has termed the allegation as baseless. He said Walia was using the media to defame him.

“Walia had conducted press conferences in 2013 and 2014 in Chandigarh and levelled similar allegations. The Punjab and Haryana High Court is probing the matter. Instead, Walia had duped us and usurped my relatives’ hard-earned money. Nearly seven civil cases are pending in the court against Walia. I have no link in the present case. My name is being misused to highlight the matter and to mount pressure on the police for stopping further investigation into the case,” said the IPS officer, now a DIG.

The officer said Walia was once a good friend of his. He won his trust and duped him and his family members of their hard-earned money, said the IPS officer.

Walia agreed that he was a friend of the police officer once but turned a foe when he became a witness in the Rs 4 crore bribery allegation levelled against the officer.

Walia said Davinder was booked by the Salem Tabri police under section 406 of the IPC for criminal breach of trust. “But the police, instead of pressing Davinder for joining the investigation, was forcing me to surrender Audi Q7, which I had purchased from Davinder for Rs 40 lakh,” claimed Walia.

However, Walia could not provide the document to prove that from where he had managed to amass so much of wealth.
