Retired IAS officer Dawra dies at 80

IL Dawra (80), a retired IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, died of a pulmonary disease last evening at a hospital in Mumbai. He served the Punjab Government for 35 years. Dawra was the Deputy Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the state Transport Commissioner in the 1970s.
After retirement, he wrote a column for three newspapers in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, specialising in political commentary. He is survived by wife Uma Dawra, daughters Vinita Nangia and Sumita Dawra and son Vikas Dawra.
His brother, Shyam Sunder Dawra, another Punjab-cadre IAS officer, also died of a pulmonary disease early this year. SS Dawra, who served as the Patiala Deputy Commissioner, retired as Secretary to the Union Government.
