Dehradun, March 2
Shopkeepers staged a protest in Rishikesh today against the rise in burglaries in the town. The protesters said the police should chalk out a concrete plan to solve the cases at the earliest.
The protesters said thieves targeted six shops in 10 days and took away cash and valuable articles worth lakhs of rupees.
Jai Dutt Sharma, general secretary, Rishikesh Vyapar Mandal, said police officials were requested many times to solve the pending burglary cases but to no avail. He said the protest would be intensified if the police failed to take effective action.
Sharavan Jain, Ramakant Agarwal, Govind Agarwal, Ravi Jain, Yashpal Agarwal, Saurabh Bansal, Sandeep Gupta, Deepak Bisht, Pawan Sharma among others were present.
The shopkeepers had also protested at the SP (rural) office three days ago against the increase in theft cases.
