Commuters in this region are set to get better road connectivity as the Ropar PWD has started laying a 3.4-km road between Bhangala and Mansali villages. It leads to the Ropar-Anandpur Sahib national highway near Ghanauli.
After completion of the work, the distance from Chandigarh to cities like Kiratpur Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, Dharamsala and Manali will reduce by at least 10 km.
The distance from nearby villages to Anandpur Sahib will reduce by 22 km. The distance between Bhangala to Anandpur Sahib will be reduced to a mere 37 km from 59 km. Commuters from Chandigarh using the new route will save on the toll plaza at Ropar as well.
The commuters from Chandigarh avoiding the congestion at Mohali and Kharar will have to go through the newly constructed four-lane Mullanpur Garibdas road and take a right turn from Majari village just before the new toll plaza on the Siswan-Kurali road.
Passing through the villages of Khizrabad, Bindrakh, Purkhali Bhangala and Mansali, the road will join the Ropar-Kiratpur Sahib road near Ghanauli, 10 km from Ropar.
Ropar MLA and Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema said that it was a long pending demand of local residents. The state government has already sanctioned a budget of Rs 12 crore for the purpose, he said.
Ropar PWD XEN Inderjit Singh said that the work of laying the road would be completed by May 31. Work on a proposed bridge on a choe between Purkhali and Bindrakh villages is yet to begin.
Sher Singh, a resident of Majari Jattan village, said that after the completion of the road, the area falling in the Kandi region would get an economic boost.
