Chandigarh, August 25
Robbery was the motive behind the murder of the Reliance Jio marketing head here on July 30.
The three accused, who have a criminal background, arrested for 38-year-old Vineet Trehan’s murder, had used two axes in the crime. The police have recovered purse and some other documents of the victim that were robbed. However, the police could not recover two mobile phones the assailants made off with from the victim’s car.
On August 21, the police had arrested Manish (27), a resident of New Indira Colony, Mani Majra, Akash, alias Golu (27), a resident of Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, Panchkula, and Aamir (21) a resident of Mani Majra.
DSP (East) Satish Kumar said on July 30, Vineet Trehan, a resident of Modern Housing Complex, was talking on mobile phone after parking his car near Uppal Housing Apartments in Mani Majra. The police official said while talking on the phone, the victim came out of the car to answer a nature’s call.
The three accused, who were passing by on a motorcycle, saw the victim. “The accused, Manish and Akash, attacked the victim with axes, following which he fell on the road. The accused then robbed his two mobile phones, a purse containing Rs 4,000 in cash, ID cards of Reliance Jio and three pen drives,” said the police.
The police said after murdering the victim, the accused went to his SUV to steal valuables lying in it. However, fearing that security guards at the gate of Uppal Housing Apartments had seen them, they fled from the spot leaving behind a laptop and a gold chain lying in the car. The accused took along the key of the SUV.
The accused then went towards Swastik Vihar, Mani Majra, from where they went to Sector 21, Panchkula, and then Nada Sahib. “Since the accused could not switch off the victim’s iPhone, they threw it in Ghaggar. Although the accused claimed that the second mobile phone was also thrown in Ghaggar, we suspect the second mobile was handed over to someone,” the police official said.
The police have recovered the wallet, an ATM card, ID cards and three pen drives from the accused.
DSP Satish Kumar said the accused have confessed to the crime.
