Roorkee hospital penalised Rs 50,000

The Pollution Control Board has imposed a penalty on a Roorkee-based hospital for failing to properly treat biomedical waste.
A fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed on the Nana Munna Hospital at Roorkee while another 82 private and government hospitals and pathology laboratories have been issued notices.
The Pollution Control Board has also registered cases for failing to discharge biomedical waste, according to the norms, against the Jeevan Rekha hospital, Kashipur; Jwala Nursing Home, Dehradun; Community Health Centre, Vikasnagar; and SPG Hospital, Rishikesh. “We will initiate action against other hospitals found violating norms in the coming days,” said Vinod Singhal, member secretary, Pollution Control Board.
The board has also decided to hold workshops for private hospitals on the issue of biomedical waste management in Kashipur, Haldwani and Rudrapur on October 20, 21 and 22, respectively.—TNS
