An RTI activist in a press conference alleged that he was attacked by his relatives when he sought information about illegal construction being done by them in Mussoorie on February 13. The activist alleged that the police were taking no action and the accused.They also threatened him of dire consequences. Rakesh Agarwal, member of the state RTI club, said he had sought information under the RTI Act from the MDDA on illegal construction of a building by his relatives, Kailash Goyal and family.
Agitated Kailash Goyal cornered him while he was going to open his shop on the Mall road on Tuesday and started hurling abuses for seeking the information against them. Kailash, along with his son Deep Goyal and wife Jyaanti, attacked him with slippers and tried to gag him to death, alleged Rakesh Agarwal. He informed the police after which the family of the accused fled the scene.
When contacted, Kailash Goyal relative of the RTI activist refuted the charges. Kailash further alleged that the RTI activist demanded Rs 5 lakh from them which they did not agree. The police have started the inquest proceedings. — TNS
